Woman Takes Two Positive Pregnancy Tests, Then Spends 24 Hours Believing She's Pregnant
A content creator has gone viral for telling the humorous yet nerve-racking story of how she got false positives on two different pregnancy tests and pregnancy symptoms — all without being pregnant.
Medical professionals also assured her it was likely, but a more thorough test showed her this wasn’t the case. The video covering this whole debacle has since received over 1.4 million views on Instagram in a month.
Kaylen, known on social media as Kaylen Does Stuff, is a New York City-based podcaster, journalist, student and content creator. Her content mostly focuses on beauty and travel, though she also posts clips and interviews she does for her podcast, called Wild Child.
However, her most recent viral video stemmed from something that happened to her. In this storytime, Kaylen talks about the 24 hours when she was sure she was pregnant.
"So I took a pregnancy test, and I passed that test, sadly," Kaylen says at the beginning of her video, speaking to the camera.
"It was positive!" she says, "and I was like, hello? I'm, I'm pregnant. Girl, no. I'm a Virgo. I'm a journalist. I'm many things, but pregnant? In the summertime? No," she expresses.
"So I was like, let me take the test again. Retest, retest," Kaylen continues, "so, I take another test and that one is like, 'Yeah, you're pregnant,' and the first test was like, 'Yeah, I been told her that. Yeah.' Uh, so I called my mom," she recounts.
"And the reason I took the test in the first place wasn't because I suspected I was pregnant; it's because my mom told me to take the test," she explains. "She was like, 'I'll pay for it even.' Because every time I would talk to her, she'd be like, 'How are you doing?' And I would be like, 'Oh, I just threw up.'"
"So I call my mom," Kaylen says, "I'm on the floor of the bathroom, I'm sobbing, I'm like, 'Mom,' and, 'I took the test.' And then she's like, 'What did it say?'" she recounts, pausing before saying: "I was like, 'Do you think I would be crying if it was good?' And she was like, 'Oh.'"
"My mom's like, 'Girl, call the doctor right now,'" Kaylen says. "So I call the doctor, but they're like, 'You have to come in tomorrow.' I'm like, 'Okay, cool. Like, get me in first thing in the morning,'" she explains.
"And the phone operator, I ask her, I'm like, 'Hey, like, what are the odds that this is just a misunderstanding and wrong?'" Kaylen says, before acting out the phone operator's response, "Oh, um, honestly, false positives are, like, super rare because it means your body has, like, hCG hormone, so yeah, you're probably, like, with child."
"And so I was like, 'Okay, well, the last time that, you know … that was like 13, 14 weeks ago. Like, I can't be that pregnant,'" Kaylen expresses. "And then she was like, 'Well, actually, yeah, you totally could be. All right, see you Monday,'" she says, acting out the phone operator's response with an overly cheery tone and a forced smile.
"I started to feel like I was having symptoms. Like, like I feel nauseous. So I walk to Domino Park, and I put my hand on the rail like this, and I went 'Aah!' into the water," she explains.
At this point, Kaylen edits in a video from that day. "Guys, I just found out I'm pregnant. Summer over," she says, walking by the water and speaking to the camera.
"Next day I wake up, I'm bawling," she says, editing a video from that morning of her crying after having just woken up "I'm like, "Okay, time to go to the doctor." I'm literally shaking the entire way to the doctor. My roommate Lily comes with me," she explains.
"I tell them about, like, my positive test and they're like, 'Oh, well, was it the first test that you took in the morning? Because usually that's the most accurate.' It was first thing in the morning," she recounts, "And they were like, 'Oh, it's giving pregnant,'" she says, laughing.
"And so I pee in the cup," she says, "then the doctor comes in, and the doctor goes, 'Hi Kaylen, um, so we got the test back, and it looks like you are pregnant, we need to talk about next steps,' and I was like, 'No!'" she says, reenacting her reaction with crying sounds.
"And then the nurse runs in and is like, 'Wait,' grabs the doctor," she explains, "then the doctor comes back, and she's like, 'Hey, I'm so sorry, this is a huge mistake, but actually you're not pregnant,'" Kaylen recounts.
"What?" she says, "I literally feel like Ashton Kutcher, like, someone's gonna come up with, like, a prank camera."
"They're like, 'Yeah, like, you're not pregnant, like, we looked at your urine again,'" Kaylen says. "And Lily's like, 'Bring out an ultrasound! Bring out an ultrasound!'"
Then, Kaylen edits in a video of her at the doctor's appointment. "Guys, they came in, and they were like, 'It's positive,' then they were like, 'Wait, it's negative,'" she then turns the camera around to Lily and says, "My manager," as Lily says that they want answers.
"The doctor comes back in with the ultrasound results," Kaylen continues, "and she's like, 'Yeah, there's no baby in there,' and I'm like, 'Hallelujah!'" she says, throwing her arms up.
"She's like, 'Yeah, you're not with child, but clearly there's something wrong with you,'" Kaylen recounts, laughing, "Yeah, that was my 24-hour pregnancy experience."
"And then immediately my, like, 'symptoms,' like, went away," she says, laughing, "that shows you the power of the mind. Like, when I thought I was pregnant, I was like, 'Oh my god, I think I did feel a kick yesterday,'" she says, in an exaggerated, dramatic tone.
In the comments, several users congratulated Kaylen on not being pregnant and expressed how hearing the story felt like being on a rollercoaster.
Other people suggested reasons for Kaylen’s false positives and expressed that they may have been signs of a health issue.
