Last night, nothing went right for the Los Angeles Chargers as they got absolutely thwacked by division rivals the Las Vegas Raiders 63-21.

The game was over at halftime, and this morning, their head coach Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco were abruptly fired.

However, despite the carnage and disaster unfolding around him, the Chargers running back Austin Ekelerhad found one moment to get excited when he was able to get his team a first down in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard screen pass.

Ekeler celebrated with a patented first-down signal. His team was down 56 points.

Austin Ekeler's big celebration

Considering the state of the game, the first down was completely meaningless. He wasn't exactly a "bright spot" for his team either, gaining only 9 yards on five carries, which is an abysmal output for an NFL running back.

All of this made his big "first down" celebration deeply humorous to many viewers and users online, who began using the moment in various jokes and memes.

The moment was reminiscent of the Chris Paul Hits a Huge 3 To Cut The Lead to 42 meme, which similarly highlighted a player making a "big play" when the game was way out of reach. At least in that instance, Chris Paul didn't celebrate.
