Insomniac Games, developers behind the recent massively popular Spider-Man series on PlayStation, has been the victim of a massive hack and data leak, as the company's plans through 2033 and the personal information of its employees have been posted online.

The hack was reported one week ago, and the Rhysida group posted that they were auctioning the data from the hack starting at 50 Bitcoin, which comes out to roughly $2 million.

They gave Insomniac, and presumably others, one week to meet their ransom. Insomniac didn't pay, and now 98 percent of the information stolen by the group has been posted online, while the other 2 percent has been sold, according to CyberDaily.

The files feature a significant amount of information regarding the studio's upcoming Marvel's Wolverine title, as well as plans for more games through 2033. Personal information including Insomniac employees' tax documents are in the leak, and it is rumored that their passport scans are in the leak too, though that is unconfirmed.

Rhysida was forthcoming about their motivations for the attack, saying it took them less than half an hour to breach their system and their motivation was money.

"Sony has launched an investigation, but it would be better in the backyard," a spokesperson for the group told CyberDaily, suggesting the hackers believe Sony needs to shore up security on its end.

Gameplay for the upcoming Wolverine game has spread online in the wake of the leak, and there is some discourse about the contents of Insomniac's other plans spreading on social media hubs like Twitter and Reddit.

Rhysida was the subject of a cybersecurity advisory published by the United States Department of Justice earlier this year.
